Co-Line signed two new welding apprentices through the WorkSMART Connector Apprenticeship Program and the Career Academy of Pella on April 22, 2026.  In June, Blayne Shawler from Pella Community School and Liam Thomas from Oskaloosa High School will join the weld department. The students will complete a year-long apprenticeship with at least 2,000 work hours.

This is Co-Line’s fourth year participating in the program, and over that time, many apprenticeships have led to full-time employment. “I interviewed 16 welders for the apprenticeship program this year and am excited by the strong interest in welding! This is a great opportunity for students who maybe don’t like the classroom setting to continue to improve their skills with hands on learning and earn some money while getting class credits. It’s a win-win for everyone!” said Faye Brand.
