Basketball court dedicated in memory of creator of Goalsetter basketball hoop
Co-Line donates basketball hoops to COC court
The Christian Opportunity Center recently renovated the basketball court next to their main office in Pella. On Friday, June 14, COC dedicated the space to a longtime supporter of the organization’s efforts. The family of the late Denny Brand was on hand to receive the honor intended to pay tribute to the man who created the Goalsetter basketball hoop and served as a board member and supporter of COC.
“The updated basketball court has brought so much joy and activity to the people we support, as well as to the kids in the neighborhood. We were eager to celebrate this excellent addition with the Brand family,” said Amy Zuck with COC.
The children of Denny all spoke at a brief ceremony to share about his life and impact. COC Executive Director Jodi Tukker presented the family with a plaque to commemorate the space. The basketball hoops were donated by Co-Line, and Dale Brand joined the dedication ceremony. Denny, Dale, and Dennis Steenhoek collectively brought the first height-adjustable basketball hoop to market in the early 1990s, and Co-Line still manufactures the Goalsetter hoops today.
“The dedication of the basketball court in Denny’s honor was a wonderful tribute to a man who loved the game of basketball, served the wonderful people of the COC community, and was a father figure to many student athletes through the years,” said Faye Brand.
