SUCCESS ON THE TRACK SUPPORTS SUCCESS IN BUSINESS.
To promote Co-Line and Goalsetter Systems, the companies sponsor an alcohol funny car in the NHRA Drag Racing circuit. Co-owner Dale “Rail” Brand drives the car; his oldest son, Eric Brand, heads the crew. Crew members are Tana Brand, DeWayne Lemons, and Marty Van Wyk. The team holds a national record in the IHRA Professional Division for the quarter mile (5.640 seconds/249.390 mph).
In the 2014 season, Team Co-Line/Goalsetter finished second in the nation! They were crowned champions in the the NHRA Division Five West Central class with 383 points. Brand had three division wins, a national win, and four semi-final appearances in 2014. “A big thank you to everyone at Co-Line for all their support this season,” said Eric Brand, crew chief. “I don’t know how any race team could do what we did this year without a supportive tool and die department as well as many other people in the organization.”
During 2013, in six NHRA appearances, Team Co-Line/Goalsetter won twice, finished as runner-up at two events, and earned berths in two semi-finals. Memorable moments included beating Frank Manzo, all-time championship title-holder, and winning at the JEGS All-Star Race. The year also saw Rail’s fastest pass to date in the NHRA circuit: 5.52 seconds at 262 mph.
Many of Co-Line’s machining processes support the team’s efforts. In particular, the company’s tool and die experts play a crucial role. They develop the cylinder heads and other mechanical components that help ensure high performance on the track.
Although racing accounts for a relatively small part of Co-Line’s manufacturing output, it is an important part of the business. Success on the track has led to many successful business connections.
Co-Line Cylinder Heads
Co-Line cylinder head customer Howard Anderson dominates AA/Supercharged at 2015 March Meet
The historic March Meet held in Bakersfield, CA, is one of the most prestigious events of the year for nostalgia racing, and the Sierra Pipe team of Howard Anderson performed well. Racing to a career-best low ET and top speed of the meet with a 6.464 at 216.51, Howard and team started to show the potential of the new Co-Line stage 6 cylinder head.
“You’ve created an animal!” noted Howard. “We now have a lot of clutch work to do to keep up with the new power.”
Apr. 11 in Sacramento, CA, will be the next outing for the team to dial in on the new-found horsepower. Thanks to Kurt Steenhoek, Brian White, and Marty Van Wyk for their efforts in completing these new cylinder heads!
Januik starts second season with Co-Line heads
Co-Line cylinder head customer Nick Januik is raring to get going in the 2015 alcohol funny car racing season. The season is just getting rolling for Januik, who wrote the note below commending the Co-Line product he uses. Januik had the top alcohol funny car at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas in 2014.
“In my opinion, Co-Line heads are the best in the business,” Januik said. “We are a fairly new team, going into our only second full season of racing funny cars, but having such a great head helped with making the power to compete with all of the seasoned veterans of the sport. We were not new to the top alcohol combination as we ran it in a top alcohol car in the sand, so when we decided to make the transformation to the asphalt, it was no question that we were going with the Co-Line product. Not only is it a nice piece, but to have the technical support that comes from Eric and his whole group of employees goes a long way. The craftsmanship of the heads they produce and the quality of repair work they do is by far some of the best in the industry. With these heads, we were able to win our first national event in only the third national event that we went to. Thank you to the whole Co-Line team.”
